In this article, we get to the nitty gritty about what a Modular Riser is and why it exists as opposed to more traditional pedal risers in the pedalboard world.
What does modular actually mean???
The current market for pedalboard risers today is mostly made up of platforms that are "meant" to span across the bottom of a single pedal or a row of pedals, but this design idea that most designers & makers are using is flawed. Not because it doesn't work for a lot of cases, but instead, its for another fact. When you want to change layouts, or get a pedal from a unique builder that is using odd sizes for their housings, these platform risers can become a nuisance to try to figure out how to make work.
Often times, platform style risers can only work for a couple of different layout configurations leaving you with too much wasted space or not enough platform to span underneath the pedals you are trying to give lift to.
This is where the word MODULAR comes in.
Modular in the sense of our risers, simply means, place these pieces under the pedals spacing them out however you need and not having to worry about whether a platform is too big or too small. In most cases, you can just place our flat riser solutions with one at each corner of a larger pedal. Most smaller format pedals, 1 at the front and 1 at the back.
See the video below for an example of how we use our modular risers on larger pedals
Why are modular risers better than platform risers?
At the time that I am writing this article, I have been using a pedalboard for over 16 years.
I have reconfigured my board hundreds of times at the very least (If not over a thousand times by now.)
My pedalboard has seen all sorts of changes in size, shape and layout.
After using my board with no risers, using platforms and eventually developing my own modular risers once I got tired of the size restrictions and limitations that platforms provided.
I have bought and sold and even tossed a ton of different "Riser solutions" over the years. My findings over the years has come to the fact that the only risers I found that I could re-use on any board no matter the boards size or shape and no matter the pedal, were the modular risers I designed.
Modular risers are nearly limitless in their function and what you once used for one large pedal in one spot on your board could later be used to lift 2 pedals in 2 totally different locations on your board later.
Another benefit is that without the extra space being taken up by a platform, you now maximize the amount of room that is underneath the pedal, providing a much larger area for wire routing.
The biggest benefit however, STACKABILITY! With our modular pedal risers, we designed most of them to be stackable for nearly limitless configurations. This means, if you have extra risers and need a pedal to be taller than it already is with one set of risers already underneath it, you can add your extra risers and get the height you need without having to find and buy a completely new riser for the right height.
We hope that this sheds some light on the topic of modular pedal risers and that you find our solutions helpful in your endeavor to "BUILD YOUR BOARD YOUR WAY" no matter the size or shape of your pedalboard.
